New sustainable solutions

This sector is committed to the economic and social benefits of applying biotechnology in business environments, as well as to increasing the competitiveness of SMEs by increasing their R+D+I activity.

In order to meet the high demand for energy sources, ITE proposes appropriate technological solutions to provide autonomous devices thanks to the development of energy storage. To do this, they perform:

  • Synthesis of solid polymer membranes with high electrochemical stability and high safety
  • Development of carbonaceous electrodes for micro-batteries
  • Integration of components developed in micro-batteries
  • Development of synthetic carbon materials with tailor-made properties for the preparation of enzymatic biocatalysts
  • Testing the functioning of the biocatalyst in biopile

Continuous study and development of components

In order to offer sustainable and effective solutions, ITE has developed materials for energy storage for electronic systems and biopiles. The general objective is to develop and characterize advanced components for integration into microbattery and biopile prototypes.

The advancement of a lithium micro-battery that integrates its components into a solid cell promotes battery safety, as well as its evaluation and penetration into energy storage markets where a minimum amount of energy is required.

On the other hand, a carbonaceous support for the bio-electrode with its functionalization and enzyme anchoring has been developed. This enzymatic biopile is intended for medical applications and allows its fuel to be obtained from the living being’s own glucose.
