From the Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE) we have the objective of facilitating the process of sustainable and efficient energy transition to companies and society.

MATCHUP

MAximizing the UPscaling and replication potential of high level urban transformation strategies

Description

The MatchUp project seeks to promote urban transformation through large-scale pilot projects, using innovative technologies in the areas of energy, mobility and ICTs. It involves three lighthouse cities, Valencia, Dresden in Germany and Antalya in Turkey. The technologies developed will be analysed to be replicated in the cities of Herzliya, Kerava, Ostende and Skopje.

ITE leads different actions for the city of Valencia in the areas of integration of renewable energies and energy storage in homes and buildings, development of an ICT platform for citizen awareness for energy saving in homes, as well as participating in the monitoring of all energy-related actions, analysis and dissemination of the results.

Objectives

MAtchUP aims to strengthen planning processes for urban transformation, consolidating large-scale demonstration projects of innovative technologies in the energy, mobility and ICT sectors, through substantially improved replicability and scalability models based on impact assessment and ensuring the solvency of the solutions thanks to innovative business models, leading to a real deployment beyond the pilots implemented in the lighthouse cities.

Results

The expected results are:

  • Deployment of innovative solutions in the energy, mobility and ICT sectors (more than 50 different actions in the Poblats Maritims of the city of Valencia) with a strong follow-up program to validate all of them.
  • Development of very rigorous scalability and replicability plans that will serve as the basis for updating at least the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs/SEAPs), which are the highest standard European-level commitment a city can make in terms of city transformation, as well as other existing urban plans such as Sustainable Mobility and Digital Agendas.

ITE 2018 Results

In 2018, progress was made in the following areas:

  • Definition and specification of actions for the deployment of self-consumption photovoltaic installations, with and without storage systems
  • First phases for the achievement of the air conditioning of the Nazaret sports centre with the support of wastewater from the public sewage system and geothermal energy,
  • Software definition of a domestic energy monitoring and management system (SHEMS) using gamification techniques and operated from smartphones.

ITE 2019 Results

  • Definition of the methodology for calculating baselines and measuring energy savings from the different energy actions of the project.
  • SHEMS: Monitoring module implemented, which obtains data on the energy consumption of the sensitized homes and environmental conditions through the VLCi platform.
  • SHEMS: Implemented household consumption analysis and modeling module, which processes historical climatology and energy consumption data for each home, developing models that serve as a baseline for determining final energy savings (IPMVP methodology), primary energy, CO2 emissions and other indicators.

ITE 2020 Results

  • SHEMS: Gamification module implemented, incorporating the engine for personalized energy improvement recommendations, calculation of indicators, assignment of scores and ranking of users.
  • SHEMS: Alert module for abnormal energy consumption situations.
  • Extension of the SHEMS system for use in community residences (schools, hotels, etc.)
  • Extension of the SHEMS system for use in homes with photovoltaic generators, with or without an associated storage system (planned end 2020)

ITE 2021 Results

  • SHEMS: App operational and available for download and installation by users on the Google Play Store
  • Incorporation into the project of the geothermal installation of the La Petxina complex, replacing the Nazaret Sports Centre
  • Development of operating plans associated with SHEMS
  • Monitoring and calculation of energy indicators associated with the different energy interventions in the city of Valencia, from the end of their implementation:
    • I1- Reconstruction of private residential buildings
    • I2- Retrofitting of private residential buildings
    • I3- Reconstruction of public tertiary buildings
    • I4- Retrofitting of public tertiary buildings
    • Building integrated RES and energy storage
    • Urban RES
    • Lighting actions
    • Smart grids
    • Smart control and BEMs

ITE 2022 Results

  • SHEMS: Incorporation of new functionality to integrate hot water meters (heating and ACS). Installation of a pilot for testing at the ITE facilities.
  • Monitoring and calculation of energy indicators associated with the different energy interventions in the city of Valencia, from the end of their implementation:
    • I1- Reconstruction of private residential buildings
    • I2- Retrofitting of private residential buildings
    • I4- Retrofitting of public tertiary buildings
    • Building integrated RES and energy storage
    • Urban RES
    • Lighting actions
    • Smart control and BEMs
  • Technical advice for the installation of a V2B electric vehicle charging point in Las Naves.
  • Technical advice for the photovoltaic plant of the “Las Naves Shine” initiative.
